This is the largest national park in Kenya covering about 21,000 Km square, it is in fact one of the largest parks in the world.. it is divided into two by the Mombasa – Nairobi highway, to Tsavo East and Tsavo west National Parks.
Main features to be seen here are the Lugard's Water falls, Mudanda Rock, Yatta Plateau, a high rise land seen from the main road. It is at this area that poaching of elephants was at it’s worst during the 1970s, but now the herds are recovering well. The Kanderi swamp is home to a wide variety of wildlife. This is the drier side of the park with the Galana River as the main water source. The source of the river is the formation of two rivers, Tsavo River and Athi River.
